Sanibel dream beach cottage
Sanibel used to be known as an easy-going beach town – this garden’s owner wanted to revive that dream.
CVD wrapped the site with head-height buffers to create shelter, while celebrating the beautiful existing specimen gumbo limbo and palms. Shell walks weave through a mix of foliage and flowering plants which shift around, adding fresh color at different times of year.
Island dry planting style
People love southwest Florida for the bright sunshine and salty sea air. Many are surprised to discover that those two factors destroy large tropical foliage.
In this garden, we used drought tolerant and salt-adapted plants from around the world – but especially Florida and the Caribbean – to create a garden that feels exotic but won’t be destroyed by harsh island conditions.
