CAPTIVA
GRAND
ESTATE
Bayfront
The design for this property is part of a longer-term plan for a series of properties spanning Captiva Island. The site is shaped in relationship to both the Gulf and the bay. Starting at the bay, CVD collaborated with the engineering team and landscape contractor to figure out a series of interventions.
We wanted to create a soft edge that felt legible while also functioning ecologically at this critical convergence.
Schedule & Strategy
As always on CVD projects, we worked with a certified mangrove team to figure out the appropriate schedule and strategy for managing the mangroves for ongoing health. Moving inland, we used native marsh grasses to create a soft edge to the landscape, blending into the more cultivated part of the garden while also responding to seasonal inundation.
Design for cues to care
All of our clients pride themselves on their taste and sophistication. This client takes it to a whole new level. There’s never a leaf out of place on their properties. CVD developed a planting approach that would feel organized and maintained from installation through maturity.
Every plant species selected was considered for how it would look through pruning and grow out. We worked closely with the client and landscape contractor to achieve a year-round spectacle.
