RESilence

We’re water people. CVD's designers all grew up in landscapes deeply shaped by water.

We design to protect.

We have a broad palette of design strategies to figure out the best way to work with water on a site. Depending on the conditions and project goals, we use a combination of “hard” and “soft” approaches to managing water. We work closely with civil engineers and construction teams to make sure that design intent is carried through construction.

We design to restore.

Our team has lived and worked through major weather impacts–including Hurricane Ian in 2022. Within a week after Ian’s landfall, we were regularly back on Sanibel and Captiva, documenting hurricane damage and planning for future regrowth. While Ian was the most dramatic we’ve experienced, we help our clients plan for increasingly impactful king tides and tropical storms.

We design to reform.

We acknowledge that weather impacts will occur with increasing frequency and ferocity over the coming decades. Our studio is committed to exploring new possibilities for coastal landscapes. We are actively collaborating to test different strategies for managing stormwater with regional partners and our contractors. Every project works with water – rather than against it – to create conditions for long-term thriving.
